Community Involvement
Green Decade
Green Decade is a non-profit organization working to create an environment in better balance with the natural world by making significant, measurable improvements in the way we use resources. Rachel White serves on the School Outreach Committee, working to advance environmental education and sustainable operations throughout the Newton public schools.
High Performance Building Coalition
The High Performance Buildings Coalition is an ad hoc group of citizens of Newton, MA that advocates for energy efficiency in our built environment. The group has had major influence on the development of Newton North High School, adoption of the MA “Stretch” building energy code, helping Newton attain the State “Green Communities” designation, and developing as ESCO program for all City municipal buildings. Rachel White is an executive member of the coalition.
Rachel White is also a founding member of Countryside Elementary School’s Green Schools Initiative and co-founder and former co-chair of Temple Beth Avodah’s Green Committee.
